Preparation for the Interview
49An interview can be a bit scary especially if you don’t know what to expect. Following is a list of things you can do to prepare for your interview.
Before the Interview:
- Read through the job description
- Check you hold the relevant skills and attributes required
- Do your research about the company
- List likely questions you would be asked and work out answers
- Get your clothes ready the night before
- Set your alarm
The company:
- Remember the name of the company and the interviewer
- Where is the interview taking place?
- How long has the company been in running for?
- How many employees do they have?
- What is the organisational structure of the company?
- What services do they offer or products do they sell?
- Who kind of customers do they deal with?
The interview:
- Get up early enough to plan your route
- Wear appropriate and clean clothing
- Take the name and address with you
- If you are driving take enough money with you for parking
- If you are travelling on public transport check the times
- Don’t smoke or drink alcohol directly before
- Take your current curriculum vitae and any samples with you.
During the Interview:
- Don’t give short answers and don’t babble
- You are also there to interview the interviewer
- Relax. But not too much!
- Don’t fidget
- Speak clearly, don’t mumble
- If you don’t understand a question say so.
After the Interview:
- After the interview, shake hands with the interviewer and thank them for seeing you.
- Make a note of the questions asked for next time
- Think about where you went wrong.
- If you are not chosen don’t give up
